How to Make Pongal

Pongal is one of the south Indian traditional food. You can prepare pongal using with Oats,Millet and Rava by replacing rice. serve pongal with sambar,chutney and vada.

Ingredients:
(1 Cup=150 ML)
1 ½  Cup Raw Rice
½  Cup Moong Dal
1 tsp Mustard seed
1 tsp Cumin seed
1 Pinch Turmeric
1 Pinch Hing or Asafoetida(Perungayam)
3 tsp Ghee
6 cup water
Salt to taste

For Tempering:
1 tsp Ghee
10 Cashew nuts (Optional)

Instructions:
  • In a Pressure Cooker heat 3 tsp of Ghee
  • Add 1 tsp cumin seed and 1 tsp Mustard seed and Saute them on low flame until Mustard seeds start crackle
  • Add 1 ½  Cup Raw Rice and ½  Cup Moong Dal  and saute for a minute 
  • Further Add 6 cup of water and required salt mix well
  • then  add 1 pinch turmeric ,1 pinch hing  and mix well
  • Cover the pressure cooker for 6 whistle on medium flame
  • once the pressure cooker settle down open the cooker and do the mix
  • Further more heat a pan and add 1 tsp ghee
  • Add cashew nuts and saute them until cashew turns golden brown
  • Pour the tempering Cooked rice and Dal
  • Mix well the cooked rice and Dal, if required added more ghee
  • Finally serve pongal, with sambar and Cocunut chutney

Ingredients:

Add 1 ½  Cup Raw Rice and ½  Cup Moong Dal  and saute for a minute

Cover the pressure cooker for 6 whistle on medium flame


Meanwhile heat a pan and add 1 tsp ghee


Add cashew nuts and saute them until cashew turns golden brown


Pour the tempering Cooked rice and Dal


Finally serve pongal, with sambar and Cocunut chutney


Notes:
Add more ghee for rich taste
Adjust water as per rice variety
Soaking Dal and Rice helps to cooking faster
Roast Moong Dal as its given more flavor to the pongal
