How to Make Poha Matar

Ingredients:

1 ½ Cup Poha(Thick Varity Aval)
1 Cup Green Peas
2 Onion, Finely chopped
3 Green chilies, Silted
1 Pinch Hing (perungayam)
1 tsp Mustard seeds
½ tsp Cumin seeds (Jeeragam)
½ tsp Turmeric
1 Sprig Curry leaves
1 Lemon
2 tblsp cooking oil
Salt to taste

Preparation:


  1. Rinse the Aval 2 to 3 times and soak it in Hot water 10 minutes along with salt. When the Aval comes to soft texture, drain the water and keep aside until cook.
  2. Rinse the Green Peas 2 or 3 times and soak it in water 8 to 10 hours. Drain the water, transfer Green peas to cooker. Cover the pressure cooker for 3 whistles on medium flame. Once the pressure cooker settle down, open the pressure cooker, drain the water and keep aside.

Method:


  1. In a pan, add 2 tblsp oil, add 1 Pinch Hing(Perungayam)
  2.  Add Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds
  3.  When the Cumin seeds turns golden brown, add Curry leaves and Green chilies
  4.  Add Onion and sauté it turns transparent
  5. Add turmeric
  6. Add green peas and mix well
  7. Add soaked Poha and mix well. Close the lid, let it cook for a minute
  8. Finally squeeze the lemon and mix well
  9. Serve the poha matar with hot tea

Step by step pictorial instructions:

Add soaked Poha and mix well. Close the lid, let it cook for a minute
Finally squeeze the lemon and mix well.Serve the Poha matar with hot tea


Notes:

  1. If you are using thick Aval variety rinse the aval 2 or 3 times, drain it completely, then add Hot water along with salt, let it sit 10 to 15 minutes. So that it will become soft
  2. You can use any kind of aval. but make sure check it is soft before start cook
  3. You can use fresh green peas also.
