Authentic Urad dal chutney Recipe | Uluntham Paruppu Chutney Recipe

Ingredients:
(1 cup = 100 ml)
½ Cup Urad dal
1 cup coconut bits or grated coconut
3 Garlic
4 Dry chillies
1 Piece tamarind
Salt as needed
Water as needed

For tempering:
½ tblsp cooking oil
2 sambar shallots, chopped
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig curry leaves

Method:
  1. Heat a pan add ½ Cup urad dal, sauté for a minutes
  2. Add tamarind, garlic cloves, dry chillies then sauté for a minutes
  3. Add coconut bits and sauté till urad dal turns golden brown
  4. Let it cool for a minutes
  5. Transfer all the fried ingredients to mixi jar. Grind them as fine paste
  6. Transfer grinded chutney to the bowl (add water if needed)
  7. Meanwhile in a pan add ½ tblsp oil and mustard seeds and chopped onion
  8. When mustard seeds crackle add curry leaves
  9. Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix well
  10. Serve the Urad dal chutney with idly or dosa
