Kovakkai Poriyal With Kadalai Paruppu | Ivygourd Fry With Channa

Poriyal is one of the popular side dish in the south Indian cuisine. you can tried poriyal with various vegetables. but most of them didn’t not like kovakkai. Mine also not like kovakkai. but for healthy purpose I tried to cook various method by using kovakkai. This Kovakkai poriyal is the wonderful and yummy taste, the channa (kadalai paruppu) and dry chilly coarse paste will be given the yummy taste for this recipe

Ingredients:
(1 cup = 100 ml)
250 gram Kovakkai, Chopped as lengthy wise
1 onion, Finely  Chopped
5 Garlic cloves, chopped
1 Cup Coconut, Grated
1 tblsp red chilly powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tblsp coriander powder
Salt to taste

To Grinding:
2 tblsp channa dal
4 red dry chilies

To Tempering:
1 Tsp Mustard seeds
1 Tsp urad dal
1 Sprig Curry leaves
2 Tblsp Cooking  Oil

Method:
  1. Heat a pan add 2 tblsp channa dal and dry chilies
  2. Fry till channa dal gets golden brown, transfer it to mixi jar and grind it as coarse powder and keep aside
  3. Heat a pan, add 2 tblsp oil and Mustard seeds and urad dal
  4. When mustard seeds crackle, add Garlic cloves, sauté till garlic raw smell goes away
  5. Add Onion and curry leaves, sauté for a minutes
  6. Add Kovakkai and sauté for a minutes
  7. Add 1 tblsp Chilly powder, 1 tsp turmeric powder and 2 tblsp Coriander powder
  8. Mix well and close the lid and let it cook till the kovakkai cooks well
  9. Add Grinded masala and grated coconut then mix well
  10. close the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes
  11. Serve kovakkai poriyal with rice and sambar

close the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes
Masala mix well with kovakkai
Serve kovakkai poriyal with rice and sambar
