How to make Chow Chow Kootu
Kootu is one of south Indian sidedish which is prepare with
vegetables and Dal. It can be had with rice and any puli kulambu or valthal
kulambu. It is very simple to prepare as well as healthiest too. If you start
to weight lose you can include this dish to your diet, because Chow Chow more
water content in it.

Ingredients:

cup = 150 ml)

Chow Chow chopped
50
gram moong dal
1
pinch hing(Perungayam)
1
tsp turmeric power
1
cup water
For Grinding:
¼
Cup Grated coconut
2
green chilies
8
small onion (peeled)
3
Garlic (Peeled)
½
tsp cumin seeds
For tempering
1 tsp Mustard seeds
2 sambar onion shallots chopped
1
sprig curry leaves
Preparation:
1. Grinding the grated
coconut,garlic and cumin seeds as fine paste and keep aside
2. Grinding the green
chilies separately and keep aside
3. Grinding the sambar
onion shallots separately and keep aside
4. Rinse the moong dal 2 to
3 times and keep aside
5. Peel the Chow Chow and
chopped as lengthy wise pieces and keep aside
Method:
1. In a pot add 1 cup of
water. When the water start to boil add Chow Chow and moong dal. Let them cook
until Chow Chow and Moong dal are half cooked
2. Add Hing and turmeric
powder to the kootu let it boil for a minute
3. Add Grinded paste (green
chilies, sambar shallots, coconut) to the kootu let them cook until the raw
smell of grinded paste disappear
4. Meanwhile in a pan add 1
tsp oil and mustard seeds, when it crackle add chopped small onion let it fry
till onion turns brown and finally add curry leaves
5. Pour the tempering over
the Chow Chow kootu and mix well
6. Serve the kootu with hot
rice and puli kulambu or valthal kulambu
