Senai kizhangu poriyal Recipe| Foot Yam fry recipe

Ingredients:

250 gram Senai kizhangu (foot yam)
1 onion, Chopped
1 tblsp chilly powder
½ tblsp sambar powder
½ lemon size tamarind
Salt to taste

To Tempering:

1 Tsp Mustard seeds
1 Sprig Curry leaves
2 tblsp Oil

Preparation:

1.       In a pot add tamarind, soak it in hot water for 10 minutes.Extract the pulp and keep aside
2.      Clean the senai kizhangu and wash the kizhangu 4 to 5 times and chop them into lengthy wise pieces and keep aside

Method:

1.      In a pressure cooker add senai kizhanu and tamarind extract along with salt, cover the lid for 1 whistle. Once the pressure cooker settle down open the cooker and drain the water completely and keep aside. Make sure don’t overcook the senai kizhanu
2.     Heat a pan. Add 2 tblsp oil
3.     Add Mustard seeds. When mustard seeds crackle, add Curry leaves and Onion. Sauté it till onion turns transparent
4.     Add Chilly powder and sambar powder. Mix well
5.     Add Cooked senai kizhangu and mix well. Close the lid and let it cook for a minutes on low heat till the raw smell of masala out.
6.     Serve senai kizhangu poriyal with rice and curd or sambar

Step by Step Pictorial Instructions:
Chopped Senai kizhangu
 In a pressure cooker add tamarind pulp 
Add senai kizhanu along with salt
  cover the lid for 1 whistle
Once the pressure cooker settle down open the cooker and drain the water completely and keep aside

Heat a pan. Add 2 tblsp oil and Mustard seeds
When mustard seeds crackle, add Curry leaves 
Add Onion
Saute it till turns transparent
Add Chilly powder, Coriander powder
Mix well
Add Cooked senai kizhangu and mix well
Close the lid and let it cook for a minutes
Senai kizhangu poriyal ready. serve with rice and sambar or curd

My notes:
1.       Make sure don’t overcook the senai kizhangu while you cook with pressure cooker
2.      Before cut the senai kizhangu you can apply oil in your hand. It will be reduce the itching in your hand
