Thakkali Kuzhambu Recipe | Tomato Kuzhambu Recipe

Thakkali kuzhambu is preparing with main ingredients tomato, sambar shallots and coconut. It  is having with rice and any poriyal. Recipe step by step pictures below

Ingredients:
4 tomato, chopped
1 tsp Fenugreek seeds
1 gooseberry size tamarind
1 tblsp Red chili powder
1 tblsp Coriander Powder
½ tsp Turmeric
1 tblsp Cooking oil
Salt to taste
water as needed

For Grinding:
(1 Cup = 200ml)
½ Cup Grated coconut
1 tsp cumin seeds
3 Garlic, Peeled
15 to 20 sambar shallots

For Tempering:
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tblsp oil
2 sambar shallots, chopped
1 sprig curry leaves

For Garnishing:
few coriander leaves

Preparation:
1.       Transfer Cumin seeds, Garlic and grated coconut to the blender, grind it as smooth paste and keep aside
2.      Transfer the peeled sambar shallots to the blender, grind it as smooth paste and keep aside
3.      Soak tamarind in hot water for 15 to 20 minutes. Extract the pulp and keep aside

Method:
1.       In a pan add 1 tblsp cooking oil and fenugreek seeds. Fry it on low heat till fenugreek seeds turns color change
2.      Add Tomato, fry it for a minute
3.      Add Tamarind Pulp and water. Mix well
4.      Add Coriander powder, chilli powder ,turmeric and required salt. Mix well
5.      Add sambar shallot paste and coconut paste, mix well
6.      Let it boil till the masala raw smell disappear
7.      Meanwhile heat a pan, add 1 tblsp oil and mustard seeds
8.     When mustard seeds crackle, add chopped sambar shallots and curry leaves
9.      Pour the tempering over the Kuzhambu and mix well
10.  Serve the Takkali Kuzhambu with rice

 When mustard seeds crackle, add chopped sambar shallots
             
Add Curry leaves
             
Pour the tempering over the kuzhambu and mix well
             
Serve the Takkali kuzhambu with rice
