Kodo Millet Pongal Recipe | Varagu Arisi Pongal Recipe

Ingredients:
(1 Cup=100 ml)

1 ½  Cup Varagu Arisi
½  Cup Moong Dal
1 Pinch Hing or Asafoetida (Perungayam)
1 tblsp Ghee
6 cup water
Salt to taste

For Tempering:

2 tblsp Ghee
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tblsp ginger chopped
1 tblsp cumin seeds
1 tblsp pepper(crushed)

Pre Preparation:

Rinse the Varagu arisi and moong dal 2 to 3 times and soak it in water 20 to 30 minutes. After 20 minutes drain the water and keep aside until cook

Method:

1.      Heat a presser cooker, add 1 tblsp ghee and soaked varagu arisi and moong dal, sauté for a minutes on low heat
2.     Add 6 cup water, required salt and 1 pinch hing (perungayam). Close the lid and let it cook for 6 whistles on medium heat. Once the pressure cooker settle down open the lid and do the mix
3.     Meanwhile heat a pan add 2 tblsp ghee and add crushed pepper, cumin seeds and chopped ginger
4.     When ginger raw smell goes away add curry leaves and pour the tempering over the varagu arisi pongal, then mix well
5.     Serve the varagu arisi pongal with sambar, chutney and vada

Ingredients
Varagu arisi (Kodo millet)
Moong dal
Soak Varagu arisi(Kodo millet) and moong dal for 20 to 30 minutes

Water start boiling
Close the lid and let it cook for 6 whistles on medium heat
Once the pressure cooker settle down open the lid
Do the mix

Add curry leaves
pour the tempering over the varagu arisi pongal
Mix well
